CakeMeOmaha Series #9: The Avengers Cake Sequel

As evident in past CakeMeOmaha posts, Bliss Old Market Bakery has consistently created custom cakes that look and taste good. This included an awesome Avengers cake for awesome Cade (eldest son) back in September 2012. See the past FoodMeOmaha post, “CakeMeOmaha Series #3: The Avengers Cake”.

On March 7th, 2014, Jonah (youngest son) had an Avengers theme birthday party. Thus, we went back to Bliss Old Market Bakery for an awesome Avengers Cake “sequel” for awesome Jonah. The result…

Custom Avenger Cake from Bliss Old Market Bakery

Bliss Old Market Bakery created an Avenger-tastic nine-inch cake Marvel-ized with fondant and frosting. I love how Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor are individually represented in a quadrant and united in one cake!

The Avengers cake is visually neat to see from different angles. We received many cake compliments at the party.

The best part: We were stoked to see Jonah’s delight over the cake!

FoodMeOmaha Tidbit: Peanut butter lovers, I recommend the peanut butter chocolate cupcake at Bliss Old Market Bakery!

Thanks to Bliss Old Market Bakery for another awesome Avengers cake!

The Avengers Age of Ultron Movie

By the way, FoodMeOmaha and the boys saw The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie last night. The Avengers sequel has jammed-pack action, great visual effects, laughs, and superhero entertainment! I craved Chinese takeout at one point…

CakeMeOmaha Series #8: The Deadpool Cake

My boyfriend’s son, Cade, turns fourTEEN! (He used to be shorter than me…) In honor of his birthday, we continued the custom cake tradition with a Deadpool cake from Bliss Old Market Bakery. They did not disappoint.

Custom Deadpool Cake from Bliss Bakery

As expected, Bliss Old Market Bakery created a cake that looks good and tastes good.

I enjoyed the yummy, moist chocolate cake. On a minor note, I wish I had ordered the chocolate buttercream. The red-dyed white buttercream was sweeter than I prefer. Note that I am not a big frosting fan.

On a practical note, I also wished Bliss Old Market Bakery packed their cake more securely for transportation. We ordered the non-standard 10″ cake. The box was much larger then the cake and the top cover did not fit the box. Despite cautious, slow driving, the cake was slightly damaged. The cake slid in the box and the box cover scratched the cake.

Regardless of a few “cuts and bruises”, the custom Deadpool cake was a hit! Another awesome cake for awesome Cade, the teenager!

CakeMeOmaha Series #6: The Yoga Cake

IMG_4028Sneaky Friends at Maude's Surprise Birthday Party

On Saturday, September 13th, sneaky friends surprised well-loved Maude for her birthday. We celebrated Maude with two of her passions, the beach and yoga.

Clueless Maude was blind-folded and led to a beach-themed pool party. Surprise!!!

Maude's Surprise Birthday Pool Party

Smiles, laughter, and fun ensued. The merriment continued with a yoga cake for the yogi birthday girl.

Here’s the “dog down” on the yoga cake masterpiece from Bliss Old Market Bakery.

Bliss Old Market Bakery created an awesome cake! Bliss delivered on all the requested elements. The Maude-like figure was made out of fondue and hand-painted. Maude’s favorite color purple was incorporated and the trim was based on a Chinese red bracelet symbolizing good luck.

All lit up. Yoga by candlelight.

Happy Birthday to yogi Maude!

Maude loved the cake. Here’s her happy cake reaction: “Wow. It’s huge! Very thick! And there’s a Yogi on top!”

Then, Maude ate her miniature head… Self-cannibalism?

Friend, Kelly, joined in on the cannibalism and ate Maude’s miniature arms! I had a small bite out of curiosity. The fondue was semi-sweet and chewy.

  • Price: $75.00
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8.25 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 8.0 out of 10

The cake delivered in both looks and taste. Maude’s happy taste reaction:

“When I took my first lick of the frosting…I KNEW, right away, that it was going to be badass good…The thick texture of the cake itself, sans the frosting, was VERY good. I immediately devoured my first slice, making sure I had as much frosting as I had cake…Not too sweet, not too heavy, and not too flimsy. It was a cake that should be enjoyed and devoured at an even pace.”

Bliss Old Market Bakery’s pink champagne cake and butter-cream frosting is a semi-sweet tasty combination.

Namaste to Bliss Old Market Bakery for a fabulous cake!

Special thanks to Annette and Nate Ryan for their house and pool hospitality! Thanks to all the friends who came and joined in the merriment! Thanks to well-loved Maude for the reason for the party!

CakeMeOmaha Series #2: The Avengers Cake

My boyfriend’s son, Cade, celebrated his 12th birthday party on Sunday, September 30th. Boyfriend Brian and I teamed up to get an awesome cake for awesome Cade.

The birthday boy loves chocolate cake; thus, I immediately thought of Bliss Old Market Bakery. Bliss has a moist, decadent chocolate cake that is bliss on the taste buds. (See the past FoodMeOmaha post, “Bliss at Bliss Old Market Bakery.”)

Bliss’ chocolate cake, check!

Cade is a fan of The Avengers. Brian and I used our super human powers (aka Google images search) and found Avengers-themed cakes for cake decoration ideas.

In particular, we liked the cake pictured on the left from the blog, “Between the Pages” (“Where pop culture and food meet”). Bliss Old Market Bakery used this image for inspiration. It was very easy ordering from Bliss via phone and email.

Avengers cake decorations, check!

Bliss Old Market Bakery created an awesome Avengers cake. The cake had handmade 3D fondue elements representing each Avengers character from the movie. I love how Bliss incorporated all of the Avengers team!  Hulk’s fist punching out of the cake is my favorite visual piece.

There was a lot of oohing and ahhing by both the kids and adults at the birthday party.

The birthday boy loved the cake! All the boys wanted to play with the fondue pieces. Cade conquered Hulk’s fist and mastered Hawkeye’s bow.

Happy birthday boy, check!

Mmmm… The chocolate cake was moist, chocolate goodness that is enhanced by the chocolate buttercream filling.

The Avengers should have this cake after their shawarma.

Bliss at Bliss Old Market Bakery

Bliss Old Market Bakery

On Wednesday, August 23rd, my good chica-friend, Michelle, and I went to Bliss Old Market Bakery for their daily lunch AND their blissful cupcakes.

Bliss Old Market Bakery and Aromas Coffeehouse share the same dining area. Like bees to flowers, we immediately gravitated to the Bliss cupcakes displayed.

This was our first time having lunch at Bliss. They served a daily lunch with a choice of a mini-cupcake for $6.00.

We each had a sandwich of heirloom tomatoes, arugula, spreadable herb cheese, and french bread with a fresh red pepper salad. The lunch was light and refreshing. I enjoyed the fresh, healthy ingredients.

While lunch was good, we were all gaga over the cupcakes.

Michelle and I had a cupcake cheer with our cute mini cupcakes.

I had the ginger peach mini cupcake. The ginger was a nice unique subtle flavor that worked with the cream cheese frosting and peach puree.

Michelle had the pink champagne mini cupcake. While it is pink (I am not a pink girl), it was a tasty, moist treat with a sweet buttercream.

The cupcake joy did not end there. The ultimate, blissful cupcakes are below…

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cupcake

  • Price: $3.00
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 9 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9 out of 10

Oh my goodness…. This is my second time having the chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting. (The first time is mentioned in my previous post, “Celebrating with Cupcakes“.)  The frosting is a beautiful, creamy peanut butter highlight that is enhanced with the moist dark chocolate cake. The bliss of the peanut butter frosting reminds me of Brad Pitt’s peanut butter scene from the movie, “Meet Joe Black”. This is a peanut butter chocolate paradise for the peanut butter lover.

Coffee Chocolate Cupcake

Michelle ordered the coffee chocolate cupcake. Another blissfull treat! If you love coffee and chocolate, then this is your cupcake. Creamy strong coffee flavor on top of moist chocolate cake. Oh yeah. Next time, I will have a black coffee with this cupcake.

It makes sense that Bliss Old Market Bakery’s chocolate cupcake was named Omaha’s best cupcake by the Omaha World Herald. FoodMeOmaha highly recommends the chocolate cupcake with the peanut butter frosting and coffee buttercream. There are many other cupcakes to try as well!

Don’t miss out on the bliss at Bliss Old Market Bakery!

Celebrating with Cupcakes

I know cupcakes are essentially small cakes. Nevertheless, I have a fondness for the yummy, eye-pleasing, individual-sized treats. There is a smorgasbord of different cupcakes you can try from traditional flavors to creative new flavors. I could do a Forest Gump shrimp rendition of the different cupcakes you can have.

Vanilla cupcake, chocolate cupcake, red velvet cupcake, lemon cupcake, pink champagne cupcake, chai cupcake….  Just kidding. I won’t keep going, but I could!  (I did not even mention frosting or fillings.)

Ultimately, I enjoy cupcakes because they are a fun, sweet way to treat yourself and celebrate with others. Here are memorable moments I have had celebrating with cupcakes. Some ideas if you are interested!

Cupcake Cheers:

Fellow cupcake lover, Maude, and I celebrated at Jones Bros. Cupcakes when we passed a work-related, industry exam.  We had a mojito cupcake (top left), margarita cupcake (bottom left), pina colada cupcake (bottom right), and frozen yogurt.

We literally had a cocktail cupcake cheer, then a “drink” for passing our test! I was glad I remembered how to study! Fun, tasty time of cheer.

Cupcake Fires:

We had 34 unique cupcakes from various places for Joe’s 34th birthday at World of Wine. The group enjoyed both a wine tasting and a cupcake tasting.

All the lit cupcakes was a cupcake fire! A fun, happy time in celebration of Joe’s birthday.

My favorite cupcake that night was the peanut butter chocolate cupcake from Bliss Old Market Bakery. The peanut butter lovers, Anne, Kelly, and I, were ohhing and ahhing over the cupcake. I had that same cupcake on a recent visit to Bliss Old Market Bakery and I would be negligent not to blog about it. Stay tuned for my next post, “Bliss at Bliss Old Market Bakery.”

Cupcake Pillow:

The cupcake comes in a pillow as well!  My dear girlfriends gave me a lifelike, large cupcake pillow for my birthday. Yummy decor!

Cupcakes are a fun and sweet way to celebrate. Cupcake me anytime!
