Sakura Bana’s 25th Anniversary Specials

Sakura Bana

Sakura Bana (originally called Sushi Ichiban) is the first Japanese restaurant that I remember in Omaha. As explained on their website, “Opened in 1986, Sakura Bana was the first in Omaha to offer the popular sushi bar, setting the trend to follow.”

To this day, I enjoy Sakura Bana for their traditional, relaxed ambiance, sushi, and other Japanese dishes. I have visited Sakura Bana several times throughout the years. This past month, I have gobbled up their specials!

In celebration of their 25th anniversary, Sakura Bana is offering two specials for a great discounted price until November 30th. Both my wallet and appetite, says “yes, please!”

Sakura-Bana Special Combination

The Sakura-Bana Special Combination comes with your choice of soup or salad. This is usually complimentary with any order.

Miso Soup

  • Description: Miso (soy bean) soup with soft tofu, chopped green onions, and seaweed.
  • Price: Complimentary/Included/$1.75
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 8 out of 10
.

Osumashi

  • Description: Clear broth soup with mushroom and chopped green onions.
  • Price: Complimentary/Included/$1.75
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 6 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 6 out of 10
.

I prefer miso soup over osumashi. The miso soup has a more hearty flavor; whereas, the osumashi is bland.

Tossed Salad

  • Description: Tossed salad with carrot ginger or sesame dressing.
  • Price: Complimentary/Included/$1.75
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9 out of 10

Simple and refreshing. I like both the carrot ginger (left picture above) and the sesame dressing (right picture above). Sometimes, I will order the dressing to-go to enjoy at home.

Sakura-Bana Special Combination

  • Description: 1 roll California roll, cucumber and imitation crab salad, assorted tempura, a choice of teriyaki (chicken or fish), orange, rice, soup or salad, and a scoop of ice cream (green tea, vanilla, and red bean)
  • Price: $10.95
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 6 out of 10 (chicken) / 7.5 out of 10 (fish)
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 8.5 out of 10

You have your choice of teriyaki chicken (left picture above) or fish (right picture above). I recommend the soft, flavorful fish over the dry chicken. On the bento box, my highlights are the teriyaki fish with the shredded cabbage and the tempura shrimp. Then, the orange is my last finishing bite before the ice cream.

For the ice cream, you get your choice of green tea, vanilla, or red bean. Boring vanilla is not even considered. I love Sakura Bana’s green tea and red bean ice cream. Sakura Bana’s green tea and red bean ice cream have a concentrated, vibrant flavor that stands out compared to others I have tried.

Green Tea Ice Cream

  • Description: Green tea ice cream
  • Price: Included/$2.95
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 9 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9 out of 10

My favorite green tea ice cream in town due to the concentrated green tea flavor!

Ogura Ice Cream

  • Description: Red bean ice cream
  • Price: Included/$2.95
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 9 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9 out of 10

Wow! Each bite is jammed-pack with red bean pieces and red bean flavor.

Sakura-Bana Sushi Special

The Sakura-Bana Sushi Special is my top choice special.

Sakura-Bana Sushi Special

  • Description: 3 piece California roll, 3 piece cucumber roll, 1 piece tuna, 1 piece eel, 2 piece salmon, 1 piece super white tuna, 1 piece whitefish, 1 piece saba, 1 piece shrimp, and 1 piece spicy scallop.
  • Price: $10.95
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8.5 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9.5 out of 10

I love the nigiri, particularly, salmon, tuna, white tuna, eel, and spicy scallop. The delectable pieces melts in my mouth. If you like nigiri, then you can’t go wrong with this platter at this price.

The 25th Anniversary specials are available until November 30th. Five days left!

The specials doesn’t end there. On November 27th-29th, Sakura Bana has lobster specials while supplies last.

I predict another visit to Sakura Bana coming soon!
