Dining with My Dude and His Dog, Part 2: The Human Food

I dined with my dude, Brian, and his dog, Sparky, on Wednesday, August 15th. Three Dog Bakery hosted a Dog’s Night Out event at Taste Restaurant benefiting the Nebraska Humane Society.

I shared Sparky’s story on my previous post, “Dining with My Dude and His Dog, Part 1: The Dog Food“. So, what did the humans eat at Taste?

While Sparky was served a gourmet meal made by Three Dog Bakery, the humans ordered from Taste’s full dinner menu.

We had some new dishes I never tried and some old favorites mentioned in past blogs about Taste.  This time with the great outdoor lighting, I have better pictures that does justice to the tasty food.

We started out with the artichoke dip and chicken quesadilla.

Artichoke and Caramelized Onion Dip

  • Description: Artichoke and caramelized onion dip, served with flour chips
  • Price: $9.00
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 7 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 7 out of 10

I liked the artichoke and caramelized onion dip but this wasn’t my personal favorite over Taste’s other appetizers (i.e. sweet potato fries).  I had bites of cheesy, creamy dip scooped with a thin, flour chip.

Southwestern Chicken Quesadilla

  • Description: Southwestern chicken quesadilla – onions, black beans, cheese & chipotle aioli
  • Price: $8.00
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8.75 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9 out of 10

Mmmm…  This was my new Taste find that pleased both our palettes.  Crispy flour tortilla, melted cheese, chipotle aioli, chicken, corn, cilantro, and onions is a wonderful combination of different flavors and textures that is tasty-licious! This was our yappitizer that made us “yap.”

The main entrees were served with complimentary house salad of mixed greens, honey balsamic dressing, craisins, feta, and almonds.

I like their house salad but it was too sweet for Brian. This is a consistent reaction I have seen by others that do not favor sweet. More for me!

House Salad

  • Description:  Mixed organic greens, honey balsamic dressing, craisins, feta, and almonds
  • Price: Served with entree
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8.5 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 10 out of 10

Seared Sea Scallops

  • Description: Seared sea scallops – bacon and cheddar cheese risotto, chive crème fraîche
  • Price: $20.00
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 8.5 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 8.5 out of 10

I had an old favorite, the seared sea scallops with the bacon and cheddar cheese risotto and chive cream sauce.  I enjoy the seared, smooth scallop followed by the creaminess of the risotto. My phantom tail was wagging.

Baja Fish Tacos

  • Description:  Baja fish tacos – tempura fried tilapia, chipotle cabbage slaw, pico de gallo and spanish rice
  • Price: $14.00
  • FoodMe YUM Rating: 9 out of 10
  • FoodMe Value Rating: 9 out of 10

Brian had the baja fish tacos which I recommended. Taste’s baja fish tacos are delicious. The tempura fried, flakey fish, crunchy chipotle cabbage, pico de gallo, tasty sauce, and flour tortilla is a great combination of flavors and textures.

Brian’s one wish was he wanted more portion-wise. Taste has tasty dishes but smaller portions compared to most restaurants.

Overall, both humans and canines enjoyed tasty dishes at Taste. Thanks Taste for participating in the Dog’s Night Out event! Good food and company for a good cause!
